Physician

Thank you for visiting our practice!

I am excited to introduce myself - Dr. Lionel “Lonnie” Gottschalk MD. I am an Orthopedic Surgeon recently starting a private practice here in Douglas County.

Now, let me tell you a bit about myself. I grew up in Davis California which is just outside of Sacramento. I received my undergraduate, as well my Medical Degree at the University of California at San Diego. Following Medical School, I completed my residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. During my residency at the Cleveland Clinic, I authored multiple publications on shoulder dislocations/instability.

After my residency I moved to Colorado and completed fellowships at the University of Colorado in sports medicine, as well as hip preservation. I also completed a fellowship in pediatric sports medicine at Children’s Hospital of Colorado. During my fellowship years I served as a team physician for the University of Colorado and Denver University. After completing my fellowships, I worked as an Orthopedic Surgeon with a large Health Care organization before deciding to launch a private practice.

One of the reasons the transition was made into private practice is that it provides me the ability to spend more time with patients to educate them on their condition and the various treatment options available, so they can make informed decisions about their treatment and the path ahead. It is a cornerstone of our practice that the patient plays a critical role in their own treatment.

I strive to provide my patients with compassionate, proven, innovative care utilizing the best technology available, while exhausting all non-surgical options first.

As an athlete myself, I understand firsthand the intense desire to return to play as quickly as possible. In college I was a two-time national champion on the UCSD Rugby team, as well as an NCWA Western Conference Wrestling Champion. During this time, I suffered multiple injuries and spent many hours in the training room working my way back to competition. My goal is always to help athletes return to their peak performance as quickly and safely as possible after an injury.

Outside of practicing medicine I enjoy spending time with my wife and my three highly active kids. We love spending time enjoying the Colorado outdoors; skiing, rafting, mountain biking, hiking, trail running, or just playing in the back yard.

I would welcome the chance to work with you to help treat your orthopedic conditions.

Thank You,

Lonnie Gottschalk
